Paul Pogba saw his suspension reduced to 18 months by the CAS after initially being sanctioned for 4 years for taking DHEA, a substance with no proven effect on performance. The player’s defense raises questions about the legitimacy of the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) red list, calling into question its power and decisions.
Two striking facts demonstrate the reality of this lack of effects on the fitness of senior citizens and, a fortiori, on high-level athletes.
– No scientific consensus study in the world has demonstrated that DHEA modifies the abilities of an athlete. If by some extraordinary chance, WADA has one, why not present it? The Paul Pogba case would have been closed immediately.
– But above all, bodybuilders and other musclemen, the biggest consumers of anabolic steroids never use DHEA to reach the podiums and perform.
Given that DHEA is ineffective on « old people » and athletes who train daily, it has no justification to appear on the WADA red list. What’s more, with the qualifier « unspecified substance » indicating that it is a heavy product imposing a 4-year suspension in the first decision.
WADA is an irresponsible and discredited institution, unfortunately all-powerful even in its excesses:
– ineffective substances abusively included in the red list – DHEA and trimetazidine (TMZ), …
– doping substances not listed and therefore used without risk of positive control,
– etc.
In summary: WADA is an irresponsible institution to interrupt an athlete’s career for several months, or even years, for an ineffective substance. This is an abuse of power, ratified without hesitation by all the signatory countries of the World Anti-Doping Code, allowing WADA members to parade around with their paltry results of around 1%, while for the rest of human activities, the percentage of deception exceeds 50%.
